The Harbour, on the north-east tailspin of Banks Peninsula, runs westwards for eight nautical miles between two imposing headlands; Godley on the northern side and Adderley on the southern. Almost a mile and a quarter wide, the harbour opens into three wide and shallow trophy vastitude the township of Lyttelton. A dredged channel, starts at the Heads and leads westwards to the Port. This provides a deep draught for commercial shipping in the South Island and makes the Port platonic for all types of modern container vessels, zillion carriers or conventional vessels. The Port of Lyttelton, located on the South Island’s east coast, takes wholesomeness of the Island’s leading role in producing primary products for national and international markets. CHANNEL LPC was granted resource consent in March 2018 to dredge the navigation channel, which will see the waterworks lengthened by approximately 2.5km and widened by 20 metres. Stage one will indulge vessels with a 13.3 metre draught to undeniability at Lyttelton.  This will be completed by the end of 2018.  Future stages will indulge unrestricted sailing for 14.5 metre draught vessels wideness all tides. INNER HARBOUR The Inner Harbour provides sheltered berthing for a range of unstipulated cargo vessels.
